Four Seasons Watercolour Series
with Sherry Telle
Four Seasons Watercolour Challenge with Sherry Telle offers a focused exploration of seasonal moods and techniques through a consistent landscape subject. Designed for beginner to intermediate artists, this workshop features four live, three-hour sessions, each dedicated to a different season: summer, autumn, spring, and winter. Participants will engage in live demonstrations, guided practice, and receive instructor feedback, along with homework and group discussions to foster growth and creativity while building confidence with watercolour’s unique qualities.
Each session highlights specific themes and skills tailored to the season’s light, colours, and atmosphere. Summer emphasizes vibrant colour mixing and water reflections under high sun; autumn focuses on layering, masking, lifting, and working with warm autumnal hues; spring explores mixing a variety of greens and spatter techniques to capture fresh textures; and winter challenges artists with low light, snow effects, and subtle tonal contrasts. Colour palettes and materials are carefully chosen to support each theme, including the use of transparent and opaque paints, masking fluid, and a variety of tools appropriate for the techniques.
The workshop progresses with a structured approach to techniques and seasonal colour theory, helping participants overcome common difficulties such as muddy colours, overworking, and mastering wet-into-wet application. Each season builds on the last, encouraging participants to deepen their control over watercolour’s layers, textures, and light effects. Instructor notes, one-on-one support, and group critiques provide valuable feedback, while the shared landscape subject encourages observation of changing light and colour through the year, enhancing both technical skills and artistic sensitivity.
By the end of the challenge, participants will have created four distinct seasonal landscapes and developed practical skills applicable to future projects. They will gain a solid foundation in mixing colours, managing transparent and opaque paints, layering, lifting, masking, and adding texture. With a recommended materials list tailored to seasonal needs, this workshop offers a comprehensive, immersive experience that nurtures artistic growth and confidence under the guidance of Sherry Telle.
