The following are the rules for entering the Kensington Art Supply Design Competition. Please read the rules and the procedures. If you have any questions regarding the competition, please contact us at studios@kensingtonartsupply.com.

1. Agreement to Official Rules

Participation in the Design Competition constitutes entrants full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules and the decisions of Kensington Art Supply, which are final and binding. Winning a prize is contingent upon being compliant with these Official Rules and fulfilling all other requirements set forth herein.

2. Eligibility

The Kensington Art Supply Design Competition is open to all Artists of any age. Applicants under the age of eighteen (18), must obtain permission from a legal guardian. Employees of Kensington Art Supply are not eligible. The Design Competition is subject to provincial, federal and, local laws and regulations.

The finished design MUST be a single colour design in any media. Acceptable media would include oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, pencil, pen, digital art, printmaking, photography*, experimental and mixed media techniques.

*Photography must be edited into a single colour design. Full colour images will not be accepted.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. The Kensington Art Supply Design Competition is open to all Amateur and Professional artists.
  2. Each file submitted must be in a jpeg format.
  3. You may submit the same design unless it has previously won the Kensington Art Supply Design Competition.
  4. You may enter works of art which have won awards in other Art Competitions.
  5. Your art must be your own original concept and not a copy of anyone else’s copyrighted material.
  6. You may only submit your own artwork that you, personally, created.
  7. If there is any question about authenticity; Kensington Art Supply reserves the right to demand proof of authorship. If the final design is not an original concept the entry will be disqualified.
  8. Kensington Art Supply has the sole right to refuse submissions based on quality of the image, failure to meet show requirements, poor quality, inappropriateness of content, and/or concerns regarding copyright infringement in the original work.

3. Art Competition Period

The Art Competition begins September 1st, 2021, and ends on September 30th, 2021, at 11:59 pm MST (the Kensington Art Supply Design Competition Period). Entries that are submitted before or after the Design Competition Period will be disqualified. Only submissions submitted via email will be accepted for the duration of the Design Competition. Kensington Art Supply is not responsible for lost or emails not received by us.

4. How to Enter

Each entry must be submitted via email to studios@kensingtonartsupply.com as a PDF document and contain the following information:

  1. Title, media, date, and size of original artwork
  2. Artist contact information
    1. Name and Pronouns
    2. Email address
    3. Phone number
    4. Age
  3. 50-100 Word Biography of the Artist
  4. 100-250 Word Artist statement outlining the concept supporting the artwork

Entry’s that do not contain all the above information may merit disqualification.

5. Image Preparation

Prepare your images as required before beginning the submission process. Submissions are only accepted via the online process. Submissions as email attachments, on CD, or prints are not allowed in this competition and will not be returned.

Digital image files must meet the following specifications:

  1. JPG files only.
  2. 300 DPI resolution (Please try to keep the file size under 10 MB to ensure proper loading).
  3. Do not send images of your artwork which have been framed or contain watermarks.
  4. Kensington Art Supply may colour correct your images to enhance the overall presentation.
  5. Kensington Art Supply may crop your images for formatting purposes.
  6. Label your image files in the following manner: first and last name, image name, year created. For Example: JohnDoe-Daisies-2020.
  7. The file name may not include characters such as #, $, &, or other similar characters as part of the file.

6. Winner Notification

On or about the 14th day, following the close of a competition, Kensington Art Supply will announce the winner. The announcement date for each month is located on the prospectus. The odds of being selected depend on the number of entries received.

7. Award

The winning artist of the Kensington Art Supply Design Competition will receive a $100 (One Hundred) Gift Card* to Kensington Art Supply, and a promotional ‘Art Bag’ with supplies, artist accessories, artist tools, etc.

*Gift cards will not be mailed and can be used to purchase items from Kensington Art Supply remotely.

8. Criteria for Judging

Based on the artwork submitted to the Kensington Art Supply Design Competition, they will be judged based on the following elements of artistic expression:

  1. Interpretation and the clarity of the concept, to the viewer.
  2. Creativity, uniqueness, and originality.
  3. Quality of artistic composition and overall design.
  4. Color and tone. Balance of image within its space.
  5. Overall impression of the art. What is the effect of the artwork in general and as a whole?
  6. Overall, does the artwork stand on its own as a complete and outstanding work of art?

9. Use Rights

Artists who submit their artwork to the Kensington Art Supply Design and have any of their submitted artwork chosen for participation in that competition agree to the following.

  1. That Kensington Art Supply be granted usage of the chosen artwork only for display, marketing and promotional purposes for that, and for any future Kensington Art Supply Design Competitions and that usage of that image is limited to Kensington Art Supply press releases, Kensington Art Supply event presentations, Kensington Art Supply articles, Kensington Art Supply graphics, Kensington Art Supply slide shows, Kensington Art Supply presentations, Kensington Art Supply event materials and for use on Kensington Art Supply’s website.
  2. The artist further agrees that Kensington Art Supply can maintain an archive of the chosen artwork for the purpose of a historical documentation and as a record of past Design Competitions. This archive may be available for public viewing and be limited to Kensington Art Supply’s website (www.kensingtonartsupply.com).
  3. Kensington Art Supply will credit each image, with the Artist’s Name and Artwork Name.
  4. Otherwise, the Artist shall maintain all copyrights of any images that are submitted to Kensington Art Supply.
  5. Any images not selected by Kensington Art Supply will be kept in an archive for historical purposes only and will not be disseminated
  6. All images contained herein or attached to this website are the property of the artist and the artist retains the sole copyright and all applicable rights to said images. No images may be copied or downloaded from this website.
  7. By entering the Kensington Art Supply Design Competition, you are granting Kensington Art Supply a non-exclusive, perpetual license to reproduce images of your artwork on a maximum of fifty (50) promotional products for the purpose of marketing, sales.

10. Sales

By entering the Kensington Art Supply Design Competition, you are granting Kensington Art Supply a non-exclusive, perpetual license to sell the promotional products for a fee.

11. Email Subscription

Artist agrees and understands that by submitting their artwork to the Kensington Art Supply Design Competition that they are opting in and will be placed as a Subscriber and will receive future email announcements and email notices from Kensington Art Supply.

12. General Conditions

In the event that the operation, security, or administration of the Design Competition is impaired in any way for any reason, including, but not limited to fraud, virus, bug, worm, unauthorized human intervention or other technical problem, or in the event the Design Competition is unable to run as planned for any other reason, as determined by Kensington Art Supply in its sole discretion, Kensington Art Supply may, in its sole discretion, either (a) suspend the Design Competition to address the impairment and then resume the Design Competition in a manner that best conforms to the spirit of these Official Rules or (b) terminate the Design. Kensington Art Supply reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Design Competition or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or disruptive manner. Any attempt by any person to damage the website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Design Competition may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and should such an attempt be made, Kensington Art Supply reserves the right to seek damages (including attorney’s fees) and any other remedies from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Failure by Kensington Art Supply to enforce any provision of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.

13. Release and Limitations of Liability

By participating in the Design Competition, entrants agree to release and hold harmless Kensington Art Supply, and each of their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, other companies associated with the Design Competition, and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, shareholders, representatives, and agents (the Released Parties) from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Design Competition or receipt or use of the prize (including any travel or activity related thereto), including, but not limited to: (a) any technical errors associated with the Design Competition, including lost, interrupted or unavailable Internet Service Provider (ISP), network, server, wireless service provider, or other connections, availability or accessibility or miscommunications or failed computer, satellite, telephone, cellular tower or cable transmissions, lines, or technical failure or jumbled, scrambled, delayed, or misdirected transmissions or computer hardware or software malfunctions, failures or difficulties; (b) unauthorized human intervention in the Design Competition; (c) mechanical, network, electronic, computer, human, printing or typographical errors; (d) application downloads, (e) any other errors or problems in connection with the Design Competition, including, without limitation, errors that may occur in the administration of the Design Competition, the announcement of the winner, the cancellation or postponement of the event and/or the flyover, if applicable, the incorrect downloading of the application the processing of entries application downloads or in any Design Competition-related materials; or (f) injury, death, losses or damages of any kind, to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrants participation in the Design Competition or acceptance, receipt or misuse of the prize (including any travel or activity related thereto). Entrant further agrees that in any cause of action, the Released Parties liability will be limited to the cost of entering and participating in the Design Competition, and in no event shall the entrant be entitled to receive attorney’s fees. Released Parties are also not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by site users, tampering, hacking, or by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Design Competition. Entrant waives the right to claim any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages.

14. Disputes

Except where prohibited, each entrant agrees that any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of, or connected with, the Design Competition or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the appropriate court located in Calgary. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, entrants’ rights and obligations, or the rights and obligations of the Sponsor in connection with the Design Competition, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of Calgary, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules, which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than Calgary.

15. Privacy

Information collected from entrants is subject to Kensington Art Supply’s privacy policy.

16. Inclusion to Art Competitions

To be included in any and all competitions, the above-listed rules must be agreed and adhered to.

17. Changes in Rules

All provisions: including pricing, fees, prizes, requirements and rules may change without notice.
