GOLDEN’s original line of professional acrylics, Heavy Body paints are loved for their rich, buttery consistency and high pigment load. Each colour is formulated with pure pigments in a 100% acrylic emulsion—no fillers, dyes, or toners—offering exceptional intensity, lightfastness, and permanence.
This line features one of the broadest selections of pure pigments available in acrylics. Because GOLDEN doesn’t use matting agents, each colour reflects the natural characteristics of its pigment. That means some shades dry with a velvety matte finish, while others retain a glossier, more transparent surface. Whether you’re layering, glazing, or working with bold impasto techniques, these paints respond beautifully to the artist’s hand.
GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics offer the same intense pigment load as their Heavy Body counterparts—but with a smooth, flowing consistency perfect for fine detail, dry brush work, pouring, staining, and even airbrushing (especially when mixed with GOLDEN Airbrush Medium).
Each fluid colour is made with a high concentration of quality pigments suspended in an acrylic polymer binder—no fillers, extenders, or added water. The result is a paint with the richness of heavy body acrylics and a viscosity similar to heavy cream. Colours remain vibrant and permanent, with excellent tinting strength, film integrity, and adhesion.
Versatile and easy to mix, Fluid Acrylics blend effortlessly with other acrylic colours and are excellent for tinting gels, mediums, gessoes, and grounds. Whether you’re glazing, layering, or working with watermedia techniques, these paints are ready to flow wherever your creativity takes you.
GOLDEN High Flow Acrylics are ultra-thin, highly pigmented paints with an ink-like consistency—ideal for artists who love fluid applications and fine detail. Ready to use straight from the bottle, they’re perfect for airbrushes, refillable markers, dip pens, and brushes.
Whether you’re drawing, staining, dripping, pouring, doing calligraphy, or creating colour washes, High Flow delivers smooth performance with vibrant intensity. The range includes a wide selection of single-pigment colours, along with striking Fluorescent and Iridescent options.
Though they behave like inks, High Flow Acrylics are true acrylics—fully compatible with other GOLDEN acrylic colours and mediums, and just as permanent and lightfast.
GOLDEN OPEN Acrylics are slow-drying paints with a slightly softer consistency than GOLDEN Heavy Body colours. Their extended working time makes them ideal for techniques traditionally associated with oils—such as blending, soft transitions, and wet-on-wet painting.
Because OPEN colours stay workable for much longer, they’re best used in thin layers (less than 1 mm) to ensure proper drying. For artists who want to speed things up, OPEN Acrylics can be mixed with faster-drying paints like GOLDEN Fluid or Heavy Body colours. Their slow-drying nature also makes them a great choice for certain printmaking processes.
OPEN Acrylics reduce waste by keeping your palette active longer—painters using sealed containers or covered palettes have successfully reused mixtures for days or even weeks. It’s a versatile option for artists who value extended blending time, fewer wasted materials, and greater control over colour transitions.
GOLDEN SoFlat Matte Acrylics are designed for artists who want smooth, even fields of colour—without the distraction of texture or glare. With a naturally flowing consistency, these paints offer excellent coverage and a unique self-levelling quality that helps brushstrokes virtually disappear as they dry.
Inspired by the velvety look of gouache but built for durability, SoFlat delivers rich opacity and a truly matte finish—without the fragility of traditional water-based media. The result is a paint that creates bold, immersive surfaces while standing up to handling, layering, and mixed media techniques.
Opacifying Formula
SoFlat’s formulation enhances opacity across the palette—even with naturally transparent pigments—so you can achieve full, even colour in fewer coats.
Self-Levelling Performance
Unlike most matte paints, SoFlat relaxes as it dries, smoothing out brush marks and creating uniform, uninterrupted colour fields. This makes it ideal for hard-edge painting, flat colour blocking, and design work.
True Matte Finish
SoFlat produces a glare-free surface that lets each hue show its full depth and intensity—perfect for photographers, designers, illustrators, and painters who value clean, matte presentation.
Fully compatible with other GOLDEN acrylic paints and mediums, SoFlat offers professional quality and versatility with every brushstroke.
GELS
Gel Mediums provide countless ways to add texture, extend paint, and alter finishes in your artwork. GOLDEN offers five gel consistencies ranging from the thickest Extra Heavy Gel to the more fluid Soft Gel, each available in Gloss, Semi-Gloss, and Matte finishes. These gels are essentially colourless acrylic paint, made from the same 100% acrylic polymers as GOLDEN paints. They also serve as excellent adhesives for collage and mixed media, drying to a flexible, durable film with strong chemical, water, and UV resistance.
Soft Gels (L-R: Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Matte) are thinner than Heavy Body colours and perfect for mixing with acrylic paints to create brilliant glazes. They can also be used as a base for wet blending or as adhesives in collage work.
Regular Gels (L-R: Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Matte) have a viscosity similar to Heavy Body Acrylics, ideal for extending paint or adjusting transparency without changing consistency. Great for impasto techniques.
- Heavy Gels (L-R: Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Matte) are thicker than Heavy Body paints, excellent for increasing body and holding peaks in textured applications.
- Extra Heavy Gels (L-R: Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Matte) offer the thickest consistency of all gels, perfect for creating bold textures and pronounced tool marks.
High Solid Gels (L-R: Gloss, Matte) are similar to Heavy Gels but contain a higher percentage of acrylic solids, resulting in less shrinkage. They retain brush strokes beautifully and blend well with colours.
PASTES
Pastes broaden creative possibilities by offering a variety of textures and finishes. Unlike gels, pastes contain fillers such as marble dust, resulting in opaque, white or clay-toned films that can be textured or smooth.
- Molding Paste is excellent for building surfaces and textures, drying to a hard yet flexible opaque film. It tints well when mixed with acrylic colours.
- Extra Heavy Molding Paste blends Extra Heavy Gel Gloss with Molding Paste, drying to a satin, semi-opaque finish. It’s perfect for thickening paint and building surfaces.
- Hard Molding Paste dries to an extremely hard, opaque film ideal for tough, durable finishes. Once dry, it can be carved or shaped with tools and blends easily with paint.
- Light Molding Paste is over 50% lighter than standard Molding Paste, great for large artworks or thick layers. It dries opaque and matte with good flexibility and holds stiff peaks for textured effects.
- Coarse Molding Paste creates a thick, warm white textured surface with a fine sandpaper-like tooth, excellent for adding texture and mixing with paints to create dense, matte finishes.
SPECIALTY GELS
- Clear Granular Gel features granular acrylic solids that dry translucent with a coarse texture, perfect for adding texture and extending paint without altering colour. (Clear Granular Gel Item# – 3215)
- Glass Bead Gel contains genuine glass beads, creating a unique condensation-like effect, best viewed over light backgrounds. (Glass Bead Gel Item# – 3236)
- Pumice Gels (L-R Fine, Coarse, Extra Coarse) dry to hard, textured films that range from smooth to rugged, mimicking concrete surfaces and are great for adding texture or as grounds for drawing.
- Fiber Paste dries to an off-white, handmade paper look that is absorbent and ideal for acrylic washes. It can be smoothed with a wet palette knife.
- Crackle Paste is an opaque paste that cracks as it dries, creating unique aged effects. Crack patterns vary based on application thickness and environmental conditions.
LEVELING AND SPECIALTY MEDIUMS
- Clear Leveling Gel (formerly Self Leveling Clear Gel) dries to a flexible, high gloss film with an exceptional self-leveling property, ideal for smooth, even surfaces and glazing.
- Clear Tar Gel has a tar-like texture but dries clear. It is extremely resinous and stringy, great for dripping techniques and fine line details. Best used with Fluid Colours.
GLAZING LIQUIDS & OPEN ACRYLIC GELS
- Gloss and Satin Glazing Liquids can be mixed with GOLDEN Acrylics to create slow-drying glazes for fine art or decorative finishes, allowing soft transitions and blends.
- OPEN Acrylic Gels (Gloss/Matte) extend OPEN Slow-Drying Colours while maintaining their unique working properties, useful for slowing drying time or adjusting flow.
