with Liba Labik
Students in this workshop will experiment with encaustic techniques, materials, and gel-press plates to create imaginative encaustic monotype artworks. This technique is a bit different than using gel press plate for acrylic prints. Even though, acrylic gelli prints, can be enhanced with encaustic, encaustic monotypes created with gel press plate can be used directly with encaustic techniques and processes. Students will experiment with encaustic medium, encaustic pigments, materials and gel press plate to achieve a variety of effects in your artworks.
You will also learn about the studio safety, how to make your own encaustic medium, and how to use it. Students will have an opportunity to create their own artwork or choose from projects that Liba will have available. Group demonstrations and friendly critiques will be an essential part of this workshop. Liba will share tricks and common mistakes to avoid in creating encaustic monotypes with gel press plate. Experience with encaustic techniques and/or gelli prints is recommended but not mandatory. Absolute beginners are welcome. Students must be min 13 years old.
