emerging artists
This three-hour studio class is tailored to the needs of your teen or emerging artist an their specific creative interests at all levels.  Budding artists will learn how to develop ideas from conceptualization to completed work.  Each class is balanced with coached art fundamentals and independent work.  Students will have fun working on wide ranging projects while being around other new artists in an inspiring, interactive, and exciting studio setting.

Skill Levels

Absolute Beginner:  You feel lost and uncomfortable in an art store but you are enthusiastic and willing to learn the basics.
Beginner:  You have basic drawing skills and some familiarity with a medium or mediums.
Intermediate:  You can draw well and you are very comfortable with your medium.   You understand the basic elements and principals of design (composition, value, and color).
Advanced:  You have excellent drawing skills and you are confident with your medium(s).
Professional:  You are a working artist

Please note – you will get the most out of art classes and workshops that are appropriate to your skill level.

Ongoing Sherry Telle Classes
This three-hour studio class is designed for beginner and intermediate level artists to learn and grow in their chosen discipline.  Sherry will give you individual guidance in exploring your own style, and will be teaching demos each week in a variety of mediums and techniques.  Expect to receive instruction and coaching tailored to you, as well as working time in a studio setting with other artists.  Join Sherry’s class and she’ll keep you motivated to create!

Beginner Watercolour April - June
In this 8-week watercolour class, learn from the beginning how to:

  • Create a smooth wash
  • Work wet into wet
  • Layer colour effectively
  • Use masking fluid
  • Lift paint and create texture, including how to effectively use salt, spatter & scraping
  • Create watercolour art pieces from start to finish!

Have some summer fun making art with friends!

June 9, 2017 – Loving Liquitex

Each participant will receive a Liquitex sample box, and we will play!  Participants must provide their own canvas or board.

July 21, 2017 – Little Books

Matchbook size, eight-fold pamphlet.  Participants must bring their own paper.

August 18, 2017 – Collage

Techniques for board and canvas using matte medium, GAC 100, and glue.  Participants must provide their own board or canvas and collage papers.

Each of these workshops goes from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Limited to 12 participants.

Summer Camps for Teens with Kelly

Kelly Covert is an artist/art educator living and working in Calgary. Kelly began teaching privately in 2009 and has been running weekly classes, workshops, demos and summer camps every year since. She graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts from the Alberta College of Art + Design, majoring in Painting. As well she has just completed her Bachelors of Education Degree at the University of Calgary in the spring of 2013.

As soon as Kelly could hold a pencil she was hooked on all things art. She attributes some of her artistic skill to the fact that she took private art classes for the majority of her childhood and these classes provided her with the foundation to become the artist she is today.

Teen Abstract Painting Camp:

August 21st-25th 9:00 am – 12:00pm

Ages 12-17 – $125 – supplies not included 

 

Interested in learning more about abstract art? In this 5 day camp students learn to create dynamic colorful abstract paintings that delivers maximum impact. Students will be introduced to new mediums and textures in their paintings. Each student will complete approximately 3 finished works of art while learning about the different techniques abstract artists use. This camp illuminates all the important elements of art, including color, shapes, line and composition. (Students will get a 30 min break so please pack a snack. If they are staying for the whole day please pack a lunch.)

 

Teen Character Illustration Camp:

August 21st-25th 12:30pm – 3:30pm 

Ages 12-17 – $125 – supplies not included

 

Character illustration is explored in this 5 day camp. Students will learn all the essential techniques required to create a fully illustrated character. This course covers how to draw the head, torso, arms, legs etc, as well as how to develop a dynamic looking character through lessons on facial features, gestures and movement. If you love drawing and sketching your favorite characters from comic books or TV this is the camp for you!(Students will get a 30 min break so please pack a snack. If they are staying for the whole day please pack a lunch.)

August 7th – 11th 12:30pm – 3:30pm 

August 14th -18th 9:00am – 12:00pm 

Ages 7-11 – $150 supplies included

In this week-long art camp, students will learn how to complete several drawings from start to finish. All steps in this drawing camp will be covered as campers create a new drawing from life every day. Learning to draw correctly is the foundation of all good art and this camp will focus on the importance of technique and proportions. Student will start by doing practice drawings 3- Dimensional shapes, move onto fruit, flowers and end the week of doing a self-portrait drawing.  For the self-portrait drawing students will learn how to draw all facial features including the nose, eyes, mouth and ears. (Students will get a 30 min break so please pack a snack. If they are staying for the whole day please pack a lunch.)

Kids Abstract Painting Camp:

August 7th – 11th 9:00am – 12:00pm 

August 14th -18th 12:30pm – 3:30 pm 

Ages 7-11 – $175 supplies included

In this week-long art camp, students are encouraged to explore all things abstract. This abstract painting art camp will introduce your child to the importance of color, shapes, line and composition.
